Outdoor Living Design Questions
Do you design outdoor spaces as well as interiors?
Yes. We plan the layout and choose furniture, outdoor fabrics, rugs, lighting and planters for patios, decks and courtyards, then style the space. Your contractor, builder or landscaper builds the structure.
How much does outdoor living design cost?
It depends on the scope, from a single consultation to full-service design. We quote after the discovery call. Our guide to what an interior designer costs in Portland explains how designers usually charge.
How far should a wood fire pit be from the house?
The Oregon Fire Code says recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material. Gas fireplaces and fire tables follow their own installation rules. Check with your contractor and local fire department before we plan seating around one.
When does a deck need a railing?
Oregon's 2023 residential code requires guards where a walking surface is more than 30 inches above the grade below, and they must be at least 36 inches tall. Your contractor confirms the details with the permit; we plan the furniture around them.
What outdoor furniture holds up to Portland rain?
Pieces made for outdoor use, cushions that dry quickly, and a covered spot or storage for the wettest months. We choose fabrics and finishes for how exposed your space actually is.
